Madly in love

with Jay Chou once again.

I’ve heard fans criticizing his latest album, On The Run as though Still Fantasy is not already the worst album ever produced by him. Yes, I don’t think Tui Hou, Bai Se Feng Che and Xin Yu are quarter as heart-wrenching as his previous love songs. The only track I’m indulged with is Ju Hua Tai.

First, I personally don’t mind him using pieces from the Secret OST to produce two songs in the album, Cai Hong and Pu Gong Ying De Yue Ding. The pieces are too good to be left untouched and unknown in the OST so why not reproduce them? The songs give totally different feelings from the pieces. Same same but different?

People say Yang Guang Zhai Nan and Tian Tian De are the failed imitation of Jian Dan Ai. The same goes to Zui Chang De Dian Ying being labeled the same as Hei Se You Mo. I don’t know what to say to these people. -.- If that’s the case, I can easily link all other artists’ songs to his and vice versa, saying that they copy each other since forever.

And there’s always a soft spot for oriental style songs in my heart. Qing Hua Ci didn’t attract me the most during my first time listening to the album but it definitely is growing in me right now. It sort of brings calm and harmony to my soul and mind. Lols. Try listening to it with your eyes closed at 4 in the morning, before dusk. I’m still waiting for the lyrics translation to be posted at Jay-Chou.net.

This album has a lot of flaws and isn’t the best from the composer-songwriter-singer but comparing it with the Fantasy album is a little too much. Fantasy was in the league of its own. A breakthrough in the music industry years ago so unless you’re expecting another Jay Chou arising from within Jay Chou himself, it would be almost impossible? He had already reached his peak and it would take a lot for him to reach another level.

Give him a break. He is already doing his best. Okay maybe not obviously. He’s way too commercialized and busy for his fans right now. But that doesn’t mean we should sentence him to death when his music doesn’t satisfy us the way it did during his glorious moment.

Let’s just hope that he’ll find his way back to his music fantasy one day. We will be there welcoming you.
